What is the Forever Fit book about?
Forever Fit is a book by Maxime Sigouin, founder of Mavy Wellness, about how adults over 50 can lose body fat, build muscle and stay strong for life on a whole food plant based diet. Its core idea: whole food plant based eating is great for your health, but it isn't focused on body composition, so you also need enough protein and strength training.
The book lays out the five phase Forever Fit Blueprint:
Body recomposition. Slow fat loss, about half a pound to one pound a week, while keeping muscle.
Reverse dieting. Gradually adding calories back, which Maxime calls the most underused and most essential phase.
Lean muscle building. A slight surplus and heavier lifting for 6 to 12 months.
Maintenance and intuitive eating. Keeping results without constant tracking.
The athletic phase. New challenges, races and goals.
It also covers how to set your calories and protein, how to start strength training three times a week, why daily movement matters, and real stories from clients in their sixties and seventies.
What the research says. A 2018 review of 49 studies in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that protein helps resistance training build muscle, with the benefit leveling off around 1.6 grams per kilogram of body weight a day. [1] In a 2017 New England Journal of Medicine trial of 160 adults over 65 who were losing weight, those who did resistance training kept more of their lean muscle than those who only did aerobic exercise.
